Our Mission
MaDD Chess Club offers a friendly, inclusive environment to learn, practise and compete in chess. We believe chess is for everyone, whatever their age or ability.
Whether you’re a parent whose child wants to learn chess, an amateur who’s just starting out, or an experienced master of the game, you'll find yourself welcome at MaDD Chess Club.
Our History
MaDD Chess Club was founded in 2023 by two friends, Brendan Briggs and Robert Mitchell. They had a vision to create a warm, inclusive chess club. We welcomed 40 members in our first year, and ran two club nights a week.
Now, we have over 100 members, play hundreds of officially rated games annually, and host three club nights each week. This is alongside taking part in local chess leagues and running our own tournaments.
What we can do for you
If you or your child is interested in chess, you'll be in great company at our club. We can help you improve your game and give you plenty of opportunities to learn and compete in friendlies and/or competitions.
You'll also be welcomed into a community of over 100 Adults, Juniors and parents. We pride ourselves on our inclusive, warm atmosphere and give everyone the same support, whatever their age or ability.
