We are dedicated to helping all our members improve at chess, whether it's your first game or your thousandth.

Our more experienced members are always around to talk about chess and even put on special workshops on Club Nights, where members can learn principles, tactics and analyse games.

Can't make it to a club night one week? Don't worry! Our online Training Academy is filled and regularly updated with training resources from our top players.

We take part in local chess leagues and put on our own competitions.

While our team represents us in local leagues, our competitions and tournaments are open to all members.

This gives you the chance to put your skills to the test, face new players and get an official chess rating!

Our Community

We pride ourselves on our strong sense of community, including parents, junior and adult members, and organisers.

We understand everyone is different. Some of our members are chatty and outgoing, some are more thoughtful and shy, and some are a bit of a mix.

We offer a safe and welcoming atmosphere for all. We only ask that our members are kind and respectful to each other.

Our annual blitz event (10 min on the clock) for our members, held at our Thursday club night venue, the Foresters Arms

MaDD Speedy

Annual rapid tournament (5 mins on the clock) for members and non-members alike. Hosted at Carlile Institute venue.

MaDD Olympiad

24hr Chess Marathon

Our annual MaDD team event. Captained by our youngsters we battle for the chance to win one of the fantastic trophies.
